Our Catholic Heritage of Texas
Knights of Columbus members were encouraged to purchase the volumes for their council, parish, parochial school, or personal libraries.
The Texas State Council was responsible for advertising Our Catholic Heritage in Texas. Individual volumes were sold separately upon their publication at $5 each. The books were bound in blue moorish leather and published by Von Boeckman-Jones Company in Austin.
Congratulations for the work of the Commission were sent by parochial educators, Texas hierarchy, the Supreme Knight for the Knights of Columbus, and the Vatican (see above).
The video above reflects on the legacy of Carlos E. Castañeda and the Historical Commission with commentary from Bishop Joe S. Vásquez of the Diocese of Austin. Borderlands and Catholic scholars over the last one hundred years have looked to Castañeda’s work to understand the early history of Catholic and Hispanic Texas.
The Texas Catholic Historical Society would like to thank the Texas State Council of the Knights of Columbus for their ongoing commitment to preserving Catholic history.
